Harmel’s modern-day fairy tale, her debut novel, takes a look at celebrity worship and women’s magazines through the somewhat starstruck, somewhat skeptical eyes of self-described “nice hzrmel Claire Reilly, a year-old entertainment editor at Mod magazine. After Claire catches her freeloading boyfriend, Tom, sleeping with another woman, she goes on an uncharacteristic bender, drowning her sorrows in tequila shots.

At the bar, she runs into movie skeep Cole Brannon, whom she interviewed that morning for Mod. Cole kindly ministers to a weepy, drunken Claire and even follows her home to make sure Tom is gone. Cole is so perfect he’s almost dull——and Claire’s nemesis, beauty and fashion director Sidra DeSimon, is cartoonishly malicious, but Claire’s frenzied narrative keeps the story interesting.

Sidra leaks a rumor about Claire and Cole to the tabloids and fabricates a Mod article—with Claire’s byline attached—about their alleged one-night-stand.

But a red carpet confrontation sets Claire and Cole’s reconciliation in motion, and the young editor has to weigh her job against the possibility of lasting love. Mod never had a chance. Kristin Harmel is the author of four women’s fiction novels.

The book’s characters have their ups and downs. All together it was a great read. One person found this helpful. I will not go into details about the contents of the book as I think they are already well documented but from page 1 this book was a page turner. Great storyline, so many moments when you can’t stop yourself from laughing out loud. This book hits jristin the right moments and the ending is a blast. My only complaint is that it did not last longer because as I neared the end I really did not want to finish it as it was just that good.

Recommend it and can’t wait for this author’s next book. It’s a good light read with a wiyh of wine or at the beach. The main character was easy to follow and I liked the character development. Would recommend this to a friend. Kindle Edition Verified Purchase.

Book Review: How to Sleep with a Movie Star by Kristin Harmel – Jessica Lawlor

Showed that morals always win over the wicked. Would definitely recommend this feel good book. This book was an easy read.

I enjoyed it, but it was mivie pretty typical of a chick lit book. It didn’t overly wow me, yet I didn’t hate it. The plot was definitely a bit unbelievable at times though she thinks she’s an ugly duckling, yet a movie star falls for her I sledp thought the ending seemed a bit rushed.

As I was finishing the book, I felt like the book was trying to hurry up and make everyone have a happy ending and tie all the loose ends together in as few additional pages as possible. That being said, it was a light fluff read, and I pick up books like this mostly for that reason. I didn’t want to get into another heavy book quite yet, and wanted something easy and fun to read. It definitely was easy and fun, and I compare it to cheesy chick flicks.

How to Sleep with a Movie Star

They might not have Oscar buzz, and I might be embarrassed sometimes to admit I want to see the movie, but I secretly enjoy it, and need some light, cheesy movies sprinkled in between the heavy, thought-provoking movies or else I’ll go crazy or become too serious. This was a fun, feel-good chick flick of a book. How is someone who can’t even get her live-in boyfriend to make love to her for the last 29 days and counting supposed to be knowledgeable on such a subject? A better person for the sttar would have been her co-worker and best friend, Wendy who was to sexual liberation what Manolo Blahnik witb to shoes.

A much easier assignment should be her next one Little does she know it will turn her life up side down. In an amazingly short space of time, Claire’s previously nearly-content existence is tossed into turmoil by her cheating now ex- boyfriend and her editor Sidra, the catty leader of Mod’s fashion department “Triplets.

Of course she’s also delusional and trying to convince everyone that she and George Clooney had “a thing. His down-home boyish charm strikes an immediate chord in Claire that she’s determined to ignore. She’s a professional after all and above getting involved with the celebrities she interviews.

According to the tabloids and the mouth of his own publicist he’s the closest thing to a modern-day Casanova.
