Laugh this one off. The fifth Discworld novel and a return to Rincewind as central character. There are once again some great jokes, but many of them felt in one or two parts of the book and then longer stretches where I didn’t even chuckle.
Will it all come down to him to save the day? I was getting a little tired of it by the end. When Coin — who is actually controlled by the vengeful spirit of his father, a wizard rejected by the University, from within his staff — comes along, the wizards rally behind the child, enjoying their newfound power, even if it does involve turning lots of people into piles of smoking tissue and confused frogs.
After all, wizards strut and preen a lot, but don’t really rule the Discworld any more than they rule themselves wizards are a notoriously envious and spiteful lot and spend most of their time sparring with one another.
Maybe I am tiring of this series. Great fun, with Terry Pratchett’s unique, albeit, often silly, humour: Does anyone know if this is the last book with Rincewind?

The story is similar in many ways to both The Light Fantastic and Equal Ritesbut un Sourcery, the fifth book in Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series, marks his first real triumph. But after five books that almost all feature him in some way I’m pretty much fed up with him and the recycled jokes that go along with him.

For other uses, see Sorcery. There was that really big inspiration, that one unique idea that hit Rincewind with great fanfare It took me a month to finish. In case you haven’t been following my rereading of the Discworld, this time through I am using the audiobooks to exercise with to surprisingly good effect. Pratchett populates this entry with many familiar characters such as The Librarian, Nijel the Destroyer and Conina the Hairdresser, daughter of Cohen the Barbarian, the luggage and, of course, Death.
